Arcadi Volodos’ masterful sound virtuosity at the National Philharmonic in Warsaw

Arcadi Volodos is one of the most outstanding pianists of our time. Even though he started his professional piano education only at the age of 16 and did not take part in any piano competition (where winning a prize could have opened the doors to prestigious concert halls), he made his debut at the New York Carnegie Hall at the age of 26 (Oct. 21, 1998). His recital turned out to be a sensational event and launched a great career for the pianist, who from the very beginning has followed his own artistic path. Even his way of sitting at the piano – on a chair with a backrest – is unusual.

The fascinating history of the piano told in a 90-minute film featuring instruments from the worlds oldest surviving piano (built in 1720 by Cristofori) to a new Bösendorfer Computer Grand.
Pianists Paula Badura-Skoda, Malcolm Bilson, Jörg Demus, Gerlinde Otto, Hans Kann, Rudolf Scholz and others play more than 30 instruments.
Musicologist Eva Badura-Skoda publishes extensively on the history of the piano and on performance – practice problems of the 18th and 19th centuries.
