Inauguration of the 18th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw

Today, October 2, 2021, at 20.00 CET the 18th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, long-awaited, postponed by a year (hence the hashtag #Chopin2020) begins at the National Philharmonic Concert Hall in Warsaw. Throughout almost all of October, Warsaw - the capital of Poland will become the capital of world pianism. 87 pianists from 16 countries will take part in the Competition. In the program of the Inaugural Gala Concert, we will not hear works by Fryderyk Chopin, but we will experience the piano art of as many as five winners of the previous editions of the Chopin Competition. The following pianists will perform on the stage of the National Philharmonic in Warsaw:
Dang Thai Son - 1st prize and gold medal - 10th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, Warsaw, 1980
Kevin Kenner - 2nd prize and silver medal (1st prize not awarded) – 12th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, Warsaw, 1990
Philippe Giusiano - 2nd prize and silver medal (ex aequo with Alexei Sultanov, 1st prize not awarded) - 13th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, Warsaw, 1995
Yulianna Avdeeva - 1st prize and gold medal – 16th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, Warsaw, 2010
Seong-Jin Cho - 1st prize and gold medal - 17th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, Warsaw, 2015
The pianists will be accompanied by: the double bass player Krzysztof Firlus, Belcea and the Simply Quartet, as well as the National Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Maestro Andrzej Boreyko.
